Berlin Trip (Day 1)
As many of you know, we spent last weekend visiting our friends Julia and Rich Rudolph in Berlin (and staying at new friend Kristi Walker’s home - thanks Kristi!). We saw (and ate) a lot during our trip so we’re putting up a post for each day we were there. First, a day one recap:
We arrived in Berlin a little weary and sour (easyJet deserves its own future whinging post for charging us 18 pounds because our carry-on luggage had a wheel that didn’t quite fit in their little box easily enough or something. basically they were ripping us off, and I’m still mad about it) but fortunately Rich and Julia surprised us by meeting us at the airport and, after dropping off our luggage, took us to get the German versions of something we’re quite familiar with here in England: doners.
These nice German guys managed to get our orders just right despite us completely mangling the German language:

And the doners (pronounced doo-ners in Germany, as opposed to dah-ners here in the UK) were delicious… and looked a bit like giant mouths, as Wendy observed and subsequently made us take a picture to prove.

After filling our stomachs with shredded beef (Zeke) and falafel (Wendy) we hopped a train to central Berlin, but not before Wendy spotted this hilarious picture left on the ground by a group of Japanese tourists who had apparently taken a picture with Pikachu, the Pokemon character.

Getting off the train we got our first taste of architecture in Berlin as we passed the Berliner Dom on the way to Museum Island.

We finished at Museum Island, which has several museums that stay open late and are free to the public on Thursday nights. We ended up seeing lots of cool art, which you can see in the slideshow below.
