October Surprises

While it’s less than two weeks old, October has already held plenty of fun surprises. The month actually started off a little rough with me (Zeke) being out of the country to photograph our good friends Bo and Holly Odom’s wedding. I’ve only done a few weddings, but I really love photographing them - it may seem trite, but being at weddings always makes me think of my own wedding day. However, this did have an unintended side effect of being extremely sad that my wife couldn’t be there - it was unbelievable seeing old friends and getting a kind of closure with them before the move to England was really finalized in my mind, but it felt kind of half-empty without my girl there. On the plus side, there were plenty of great pictures to be had - that’s the upside of shooting a friend’s wedding is you feel totally comfortable with the people and how to work with them. Bo and Holly - congrats, we love you guys.

However, when I got back both Wendy and I were so glad to see each other that I seemed to ignore two things: 1) that after three weeks in the country, we STILL DIDN’T HAVE iPHONES, and 2) wendy had a mysterious “appointment” a few days after I got back which she wouldn’t reveal the nature of. This, my friends, is how bad my technological lust had gotten: despite all obvious facts to the contrary (we hadn’t gotten our bank cards yet, and you can’t buy an iPhone without a UK bank card) I was still convinced her “appointment” was going to get us phones. (“Oh, sure, honey - enjoy your ‘appointment.’ Make sure you buy a case for whatever it is you’re getting *wink*) Even worse, when Wendy came back later that day, I practically pushed her over checking what was in her bike basket. Somehow I was completely oblivious to the fact that my wife, who had left the house a brunette, returned looking like this:

Whoa. That’s one redheaded hottie!

So yeah, needless to say I got a lot of flack for not noticing the red hair, but after I had been sufficiently embarrassed we decided to celebrate the big change by popping a bottle of bubbly our landlord, Rachel, had left for us before moving out to Germany.

Wendy was in a happy mood and even decided to bake one of her famous sweet potato pies that night - complete with a heart cut into the center to let it air.

Yesterday, our bank cards FINALLY came and we rushed to the city centre to purchase our iPhones… only to find out the Apple store’s credit card system was down. Undeterred, we grabbed a quick bite at Subway (quick side note: amazingly enough, there are TONS of Subways here. It’s almost like the number of Starbucks restaurants in New York - you can see a Subway across from another Subway on the street corner. However, they sure don’t seem to be marketing with the whole Jared-Fogle weight loss idea behind Subway. They advertise deals for cheap subs or cookie and chip add-ons rather than health-happy sandwiches, etc. Maybe they’re so popular because it’s the only place in England you can get a half-decent sandwhich. ZING!) and then we returned to the Apple store to make our triumphant purchase. Feels good to finally have a way to get in touch with each other and navigate the city, not to mention the other invaluable apps that let you do things like make fart noises and sing like T-Pain.

Wendy bought cherry dish gloves to match her cherry pajama pants. The girl is fashionable even when she does household chores!

So needless to say, it’s been a happy bunch of days. Other fun surprises over the past week have been finding Wendy cherry dish gloves to go with her cherry pajama pants - the girl looks fashionable even when she’s doing household chores! Also, she worked so hard while I was gone to rearrange a bunch of the furniture in the house, including setting up an awesome office area with a desk where we can both work. I’m loving it, which is good because I’ll be spending a large amount of time here now that I’m working from home. As always, thanks for reading everyone!Me, where I'll presumably be spending a good deal of time, now that I'm working from home. Wendy had set up this desk when I came back from the US and it's the perfect little office for us both to work in.
