a durham afternoon
on a beautiful sunday in may we decided to start on our “bucket list”. check out the photos, everything is so well documented with the new, more portable camera.
we visited duke gardens in the morning (parking is free before noon, yay!). so many things are in bloom already. my favorites are the peonies in the english garden. i want to go back when they’re all in bloom. zeke and i also like the old outdoor chapel that is in the native garden section. they actually have poison ivy growing there too, with a sign and everything (incase you are fortunately unfamiliar).
then on to guglhupf , a wonderful german bakery and cafe for lunch and dessert, of course. surely if you know us, then you know how much we love good food. we spent a long time there savoring a greek salad, a potato and leek torte and a lamb sandwich. then we went to the patio for orange-ginger cheesecake and a chocolate marzipan petit-four.
then we drove over to the airport to hang out in the observation lounge. it’s a really nice space, very relaxing. i actually discovered it as a place to take children because they love watching the planes take off. apparently it never gets old. seriously, for you mommies take your kids there and let them run around while you sip coffee in a big leather chair. zeke chose to take a little nap.
