We made it to America!
Well, we survived the flight to Orlando, despite Wendy starting to feel pretty sick and us sitting next to a pack of some of the loudest, most ill-behaved kids ever. Oh, what I wouldn’t give for Darth Vader-esque choking powers sometimes…
Still, we have miles to go before we sleep - our flight to DC got delayed about an hour and then it’s a 4-hour drive to the cabin after that....
Hope taking the christmas eve flight is worth it! We are flying into Orlando with a ton of screaming, crying kids headed to Disney. But at least Sandy did get bumped up to premium.

after another call, we now have mom flying out of manchester with us on the 24th! though we all will have to fly into orlando and then arrive late in DC, at least no one will have to brave the chaos at the train station (yesterday it was a mad stampede) at 5am and the madness at heathrow’s terminal 3.
and to top it off, we even received a few christmas cards in the post today!

this morning, after multiple expensive phone calls we got zeke and wendy rebooked on a christmas eve flight! this is only possible because we were willing to go to orlando from manchester. when we land in orlando we will then fly up to washington dulles to meet mom, who will have landed there 7 hours earlier (after taking a 5am train to london to fly out of heathrow), and uncle eddie will drive...
We have arrived back in Manchester and turned the flat into a calling centre to try to rebook flights back home. After lots of trying we were able to rebook mom for a Christmas Eve flight from Heathrow to Dulles because she is considered a “stranded passenger.”
Zeke and Wendy are rebooked for the 28th of December out of Heathrow. They said with persistent calling we may get to come...
Now the train has lost power and is rebooting. Should be in Manchester in an hour. Will be glad to get back to the flat!
Our train is moving! However, the trains on the same route before and after this were cancelled so there are 3 trains worth of people on this one train. It was quite the savage dash on the platform.
Just booked really overpriced train tickets for the 3 of us to go back to Manchester tomorrow to wait out the rebooking process. We hope they can fly us out without having to return to London!
Whoever said London was nice at Christmas didn't...
Our flight scheduled for the morning is cancelled. Now begins the crazy process of trying to get home.
Today’s Virgin Atlantic A.M. flight from Heathrow to Dulles (we are scheduled for the same route tomorrow) has been cancelled. We are trying not to get too worried- but it is supposed to start snowing again this afternoon.
Planes, trains, and automobiles
Since the snow started falling Friday we’ve had loads of complications traveling. Our train to London lost power for a bit, there was a tube strike on Saturday and we had to wait outside almost 30 minutes for a taxi. There were crazy delays today on the tube and more early closures, and Zeke’s train from Manchester to meet us was delayed so late tonight that he’s now coming...
